The Mosque was built by the Moslem community in 1985. At that time there were 15 Pakistani and 4 Bangladeshi
families in the St Ives area. The money was raised nationally by voluntary contributions. By 2000 the community
numbered 80 families (about 350 people), the split being 50:50 Pakistani to Bangladeshi. The Committee (left to right)
are Fida Hussain (Chairman), Safdar Hussain (Secretary) and Mohamed Fazel (Committee member). They provide
spiritual and disciplinary guidance to their Community, and they welcome visits from other faiths.
Pearl is the Methodist minister and was ordained in 2001.
She and her husband Ken, who is also a preacher, moved
from North London where Pearl had been a probation
officer. She is a governor at Westfield School and sings
with the Huntingdon Philharmonic Choir.
The present Methodist Church on The Waits was built in
1905 to replace an earlier chapel.
