Done & Stevens, veterinary surgeons,
have been in St Ives since 1991, but
there was a veterinary practice at the
Station Road premises for many years
before then. It used to be a mixed
practice but after the decline in
livestock farming the practice was
handling 100% companion animals by
1997. Up to 80 cases a day are seen
in St Ives and 40 at the Brampton
branch.
David has lived in Cambridgeshire on
and off since 1969. After graduating
as a parasitologist he spent three
years working for Voluntary Service
Overseas in Sarawak, East Malaysia
(Borneo), helping to set up a Veterinary
Diagnostic Laboratory and carrying out
disease surveys. Working alongside
veterinary surgeons made him realise
this was where his future lay. He was
accepted into Cambridge University
Veterinary School and qualified in
1986. His first job was in a mixed
practice on Romney Marsh in Kent and
when a vacancy occurred in St Ives he
applied, becoming a partner in 1989.
His leisure interests are travel,
walking, natural history, photography
and occasional windsurfing.
