St Ivo School opened in 1955 and is one of the
largest comprehensives in Cambridgeshire
with over 1800 pupils aged 11 to 18. Mike,
who hails from Yorkshire, has been the head
for eight years.
Jean was Mayor of St Ives in 1983/4 and again as Year
2000 dawned. Her work with the Residents’ and
Ratepayers’ Association encouraged her to stand for
election to the Town Council in 1976, as an
Independent. In 1982 she was elected Conservative
District Councillor for St Ives North, and became vicechairman of Huntingdonshire District Council in 1996-7.
In 2001 she took on the Leisure portfolio under the
District Council’s new ‘cabinet’ style of government.
She has also been chairman of the St Ives & District
Road Safety Committee for many years.
Away from public life Jean spends time with her family
- 3 children and 6 grandchildren - and enjoys camping
and caravanning with husband Mal.
