Skilled Staffordshire
Recruit, Upskill and Retain
Businesses across Staffordshire continue to
suffer from recruitment and retention issues in a
tight labour market, especially in sectors such as
manufacturing and hospitality. With the workplace
evolving since the pandemic, more needs to be
done to support recruitment, training and retention
of staff. By offering more 昀氀exible workplaces,
training and upskilling, employers can make their
businesses more accessible to a broader talent
pool and help prevent people from leaving the
workforce unnecessarily.
Actions for us
•
To ensure the delivery of the Local Skills
Improvement Plan’s (LSIP) Roadmap for Change
through working with colleges, training providers
and Institute of Technology. We will lobby for
future funding (including additional LSIP and LSIF
funds) and policy changes to support this.
•
Work with University partners to drive
up graduate retention rate, such as through the
continued development of a Chamber Campus –
with 100 students accessing this.
•
Expand the development of our Apprenticeship
Levy sharing scheme to £1million, encouraging
more businesses to access apprenticeships.
Actively promote and encourage best practice
approaches to 昀氀exible working, helping
businesses to recruit and retain staff.
•
Continue to provide start-up advice
support and promote to university students,
so that more graduates establish businesses
in the area.
•
To work with stakeholders to promote apprentice
opportunities and successes so that more
individuals take up apprenticeships.
