Feedback from accompanying leaders also indicates that
the young people developed their confidence, teamwork
skills and resilience. 100% of accompanying ambassadors
agreed that during the course, the young people:
•
Realised they were capable of more than they had
thought
•
Developed their ability to work collaboratively with
others
•
Had increased their confidence
Sophia Parvinmehr, Teacher, City of London Academy
Highgate Hill – I think this will have a huge impact on
their resilience and tenacity, and how they will recover from
setbacks.
Teacher – Resilience is a key quality that we are trying to
build at [school], this course certainly helped with this.
Michael Patten, Head of Maths, City of London
Academy Highbury Grove – Many students were really
proud of their achievements and were happy to say they
overcame their fears.
Feedback from the seven employee ambassadors who
attended the courses shows that they gained skills and
benefitted in different ways from the experience. All
seven ambassadors agreed that their teamwork skills had
improved during the course as well their communication
skills, problem-solving skills and leadership skills.
All seven RWS ambassadors also agreed that their pride in
working for RWS and confidence that they could manage
challenging situations at work had increased.
Some of the personal and professional benefits that the
employee ambassadors felt they had gained from their
Outward Bound Trust experience include:
Ellen Mahenthiralingam, RWS – My experiences on this
course have really increased my confidence in my ability
to challenge myself [and] step up to challenges. It has
also increased my confidence in trying new things and
being able to cope in completely new [and] challenging
situations. I was nervous at the start of the course, but I
now feel proud of myself and who I am.
Craig Moore, RWS – My management and leadership
skills have been reinforced and I can see the value of
empowering people to make decisions [which] helps them
grow as individuals.
James Hewlett, RWS – [I gained] a better awareness
of effective planning [and] managing my own feelings/
emotions in order to help others.
Leah Newland, RWS – I think [the experience] will make
me a better mum dealing with my teens but also a better
manager, trusting my colleagues more to work through
problems as a team.
James McCaffrey, RWS – I broadened my network,
meeting new colleagues and learning more about the
company; gained further experience in working as a
responsible adult with children [and] gained leadership
experience by working in liaison with the instructors and
teachers.
Caroline Davis, RWS – The experience on Outward Bound
itself wasn’t as physically demanding as expected, but
I found that I was able to use my experiences in life, at
work and as a parent, right from the start, to support the
children and enable many of them to gain experiences
that were new and different for them.
