The installation of an MCE retro昀椀t(new exchange unit with ef昀椀cient Fluider™ impeller, casing cover, bearing unit adapter, shaft seal and vacuum pump parts for internaldegassing in the MCEV models) in existing 昀椀rst-generation MCpumps have made easy process upgrades possible. The same improvement can be achieved through theinstallation of an MCA / MCV hydro昀椀t (new MCE pump casing andmore ef昀椀cient Fluider™ impeller and O-rings and gaskets) in existingsecond-generation MCA / MCV pumps. These result in improved process economy and increasedproduction rate. The retro昀椀ts are possible with only minormechanical modi昀椀cations to the bare pump, often requiring nopiping or drive changes. For example, the discharge time of the digesters has been reduced from 35-40minutes to 25 minutes, while digester production has increased by4%. At the same time, the amount of dilution liquor was reducedfrom 100 m3 to 50 m3 for each blow, agitation power reduced from330 kW to 165 kW, and the air content was lowered from 10-15% to5-8%.VULCA bene昀椀ts:Saves pumping energy.Boosts bottom zone mixing.Prevents the mixing of air into the stock at low stock levels.Figure 18: MCE retro昀椀t application in a bleaching line.Figure 17: VULCA center 昀椀llet pillar.MCE / MCEV retro昀椀t and MCA / MCV hydro昀椀t performanceimprovements and bene昀椀tsMCE / MCEV retro昀椀t and MCA / MCV hydro昀椀t performanceimprovements offer many bene昀椀ts to the customer:•Higher production rates with the same existing basicMC pumping system.•Cost savings because there is no need to change to abigger MC pump size.•Higher pump ef昀椀ciency and remarkable energy savingsare possible.•Higher pumping heads provide possibilities for processupgrades, e.g. increased bleaching ef昀椀ciency withhigher pumping consistencies and higher reactorpressures.•Remarkable chemical and steam savings when runningthe MC equipment with higher consistency.•Lower operation costs because less dilution water isneeded.•Increased storage tower capacity with higher storageconsistency.•Possibility to eliminate belt or gear drive units thatrequire a lot of maintenance.•Extended lifetime of equipment and drive units ispossible.147
