Joan Lavender MBE
MIMechE CEng (1928-2008)
Senior Designer-Draughtswoman
Joan gained a National Certi昀椀cate in Mechanical Engineering and
a Higher National Certi昀椀cate (HNC) in Production Engineering
alongside a practical apprenticeship.
In 1956 Joan became an Associate Member of the Institution of
Mechanical Engineers.
Joan gained experience working with De Havilland Propellers Ltd
working on guided weapons. Joan progressed to become British
Aerospace’s Computer Aided Design and Manufacture Controller
in the Air Weapons Division working on rockets and guided artillery
shells among others.
Joan was awarded an MBE in 1987 for services to engineering.
