Days 19 to 26
UZBEKISTAN - Termez a town on
the Afghan border with many historical
sites. We move on to the ancient Silk
Road cities of Bukhara and Samarkand,
where the ‘Great Game’ was played out.
Bukhara - an attractive city founded in
the 13th Century. Wander its narrow
streets or pick up souvenirs in one of the
many bazaars. We may take the train to
our next destination - Samarkand - visit
the mighty Registan, once the Medieval
commercial plaza.
Tashkent, the present capital of
Uzbekistan. This modern, cosmopolitan
city hosts a mixture of Islamic, Soviet and
twenty-first century buildings.
Days 27 to 32
KAZAKHSTAN - Aksu-Dzhabagly
Nature Reserve - stunning scenery of
green valleys, rushing rivers and snow
capped peaks. Look out for bears, ibex
and golden eagles. Hiking and horse
riding options around the reserve.
We follow the border to Almaty,
Kazakhstan’s largest metropolis and
capital until 1997.

Days 33 to 40
Re-enter KYRGYZSTAN at the eastern
end of Lake Issy Kul. Altyn Arashan hiking opportunities. Karakol/Jeti Orguz
Region - we visit the vast red stone cliffs
in Jeti Orguz and the town of Karakol
with its attractive houses and treelined
streets, with the Terskay Ala-Too
Mountains rising up behind.
We continue along the lake, camping
as we go, and return to the capital city
of Bishkek.
