caring for tomorrow
With environmental considerations becoming an ever
increasing issue, MPS take their commitment to this extremely
seriously. We are committed to managing and improving our
environmental performance and indicators and operate an
environmental management system.
When sourcing paper special care is taken to only buy from
manufacturers who can demonstrate proven sustainability
policies and sound environmental credentials.
In assessing these credentials, we check carefully that:
•
The wood used to make the product is derived from a
forest that is managed in an ecologically friendly manner
and which carries whenever possible PEFC (Programme for
the Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes) or FSC
(Forest Stewardship Council) certification. Such wood comes
from trees grown and farmed as a crop and is an infinitely
renewable resource which does not deplete the earth’s
resources.
•
The pulp is bleached with either totally chlorine free (TCF)
chemicals or elemental chlorine free (ECF) chemicals.
This ensures that no harmful dioxins are discharged into
watercourses.
•
The paper mill operations are accredited to recognised
environmental standards such as IS014001 or EMAS. This
ensures that effluents are treated to protect oxygen levels
in watercourses, energy-efficient manufacturing methods
are practised and water used in the paper making process
is recycled).
