Ambitious and entrepreneurial as a leader, I always seek to optimise service
delivery, enhance customer experience and maximise business pro昀椀tability
and shareholder returns. To achieve this, I have learned to value my people,
think laterally, value business data, observe market trends and always
champion customer needs. My career has embraced delivering results through
people. Foot and Mouth disease saw me move away from rural consultancy
into market town regeneration, visitor economy and business support followed
by an appointment as CEO of a maritime Trust restoring a priceless museum
warship, which was an incredible role. really made me understood the value of
having a great team with me. I brought business skills to the charity and vitally,
the team understood the specialist roles we each contributed. Now, a CEO of a
consultancy and employment agency to local councils, I am developing another
business, building strong teams, business growth and pro昀椀tability.

Like most careers, my journey to becoming chief executive at Cancer Research
UK hasn’t been a linear one. From an early age, I saw the charity sector as the
right 昀椀t for me and my skillset, and I had the great privilege of working as both
a trustee and an executive in a range of charities in my 20s. These experiences
were invaluable and allowed me to work with and learn from some fantastic
people on issues that mattered.
I’ve always been a 昀椀rm believer in the importance of continued education in my
career. The leadership roles that I’ve had at Age UK, the MS Society, and now
Cancer Research UK, have all demanded di昀昀erent ways of leading. As a leader,
you need to set the direction of your business and map the capabilities and
competences that are required to that. In my view, the most in昀氀uential leaders
understand exactly what is required of their role and adapt accordingly, rather
than simply leading the way they want to.
