The Royal Institution
With 25 years’ experience in science communication and engagement, I
currently have the privilege of leading one of the world’s most prestigious
science engagement organisations, the Royal Institution. As a charity, our
aim is to be a welcoming place where scientists and the public can come
together to share their passion for science. Over the next few years, we plan
to grow our reach from within our building and online to reach many more
people, especially children & young people. My role is to support our talented
and dedicated team to work in partnership with science and technology
organisations, schools, universities, businesses and governments. We strive to
be a home for science and everyone is welcome. y!

My leadership journey in the coming months will see me focus on how
adaptable both I and the rest of my organisation can be to the changing
昀椀nancial, operational and environmental demands that all social care
organisations are facing. I need to change my mindset from ‘this has always
worked’ to ‘how can we become more adaptable?’ and this huge change in
systems, operational delivery and technological advances in an increasingly
digital world, requires compassion and a recognition that many sta昀昀 and
individuals we support will struggle with such vast change, when all they want
post-pandemic is a period of stability. Sadly instability is the new normal. This is
where the need to be strategic is vital, it is impossible to restructure everything
all at once, so we must make the right choices at the right time, looking ahead
and understanding what order choices and changes need to be delivered,
meaning that I will have to look both inside and outside of my sector to see
where the next disruption will come from and ensure that we all have time to
adapt, plan and implement our responses.
