What3Words Leadership Locations Report - A celebration of leaders everywhere and their personal journeys 2023 - Final Design - Flipbook - Page 27
I don’t look like the leaders that I saw growing up and so for many years it
didn’t occur to me that I could be a leader. I was lucky to have worked with
some brilliant leaders early in my career who helped me see myself as a
future leader and to develop my con昀椀dence and experience. I have learned
over the years to lead in a way that is authentic rather than 昀椀t someone else’s
mould. For me this is about leading with compassion for others, to see working
collaboratively and bringing others along as a strength. Although it may be
a slower journey it will get you further in the end. In di昀케cult situations and
under pressure it is even more important to act in line with your values so that
whatever the outcome you can be proud of how you handled it.

The qualities and characteristics of inspirational leadership that I aspire to
are servant leadership; inclusivity; self-awareness, courage and vision. Selfawareness is particularly important, allowing me to recognise when I am doing
well, and when I am not! Inspiring leaders I have met in my career have been
collaborative in nature, able to lead by example, and brilliant communicators
– seeking to listen, understand and share their views. The appeal of
leadership for me is the chance to drive change, through living, breathing and
demonstrating the values that matter. Authentic behaviour is inspirational –
and enables and empowers future generations of leaders to step up in their
turn.
