What3Words Leadership Locations Report - A celebration of leaders everywhere and their personal journeys 2023 - Final Design - Flipbook - Page 11
Most of my roles over the last 20 years have involved moving into organisations
that are underperforming, where poor leadership has nearly always been
a signi昀椀cant contributing factor. It has made my re昀氀ect on what kind of
leadership is required from me for my organisations to succeed in the complex,
dynamic and uncertain environments we are operating in today. There are 3
ways I try and guide: I try and be clear on what needs doing (and what doesn’t!),
I try and be decisive despite inevitable ambiguity and I try and be 昀氀exible when
things don’t go to plan. All of that is underpinned by trying my best to behave
with utmost integrity.

Leadership is a responsibility that should never be taken lightly and in my
nearly 15 years of leading organisations, I have learnt that each person who
you are to lead is an individual who is on their own journey and that they
require you to listen, to understand and guide them. Not only that, but the
success of the organisation is reliant on your expertise, insight and knowledge
to be able to build and deliver on the objectives set out for the good of the
stakeholders and communities in which we deliver services. Having con昀椀dence
in yourself, knowing that your experience as a leader is paramount to getting
the job done well, is a catalyst for continuous improvement which in turn sets
the standard for the organisation to which you serve.
