On the way to Valence we had a tourist runalong the beautiful Gorges de l’Ardèche - the EuropeanGrand Canyon - via Two Passage Controls at the Belvédèredu Serre de Tourre and La Farigoule. The roads were justwhat the crews needed; cool, shady, well surfaced and withplenty to see along the way. A cool drink at the Aubergeon the Plateau des Gras, rounded off the afternoon nicelybefore we turned our attention to the night halt.Located a few kilometres south of the 45th parallel,Valence is often referred to as ‘the door to the Midi’ andfrom Viviers the last 55km of the route ran alongsidethe Rhône on some well-earned autoroute. Very soon wefound ourselves in the sanctuary of the Clos Syrah and animpromptu “gin & tonic on the bonnet” party in the carpark. Due to this diversion the Organisers decided thatanyone late to dinner would receive no penalties at all.www.rallytheglobe.com
