Day 2: “Devonshire Delights”, 25 October 2022
Michael Kershaw and Stephen Fisher Crouch, 1960 Aston Martin DB4
had staked out a looping piste here and, in the latest round
of the RtG “run what you brung grass track championship”
the rally had to negotiate two slippery sections before lunch
and another two after. It was a tough set of Tests and, after
all of the rain we’ve had, the going was described variously
as being “good to soft, soft and in parts, heavy”.
Grip was at a premium and those who managed to get
themselves around the turf were rightly pleased with
themselves. But for some Dick Appleton’s “hook a duck”
Finish Control robbed them of their clean sheet. Thinking
ahead the Organisers had laid on a jet wash facility after the
muddy course, so at least the cars returned to the tarmac
with something like a showroom shine.
Lunch itself was at the very well appointed Northcote
Manor. Leaving the Sugworthy Circuit for the last time, a
Passage Control at Anvil Corner led us to the final Regularity
through Quoditch and over the Roadford Lake dam.

The day ended soon after with a trip to the Dingles
Fairground Museum where, after checking in at the MTC, the
crews were free to spend some quality time on the dodgem
cars, ghost train and waltzers before strapping themselves
back into their own cars. Then it was back to Hotel Endsleigh
via the Ambrosia custard factory, whereafter a garden tour
and a BBQ finished the day off nicely with a conjurer on
hand to round off a magical day.
