30%
of children in Milton
Keynes lived in poverty

Child Poverty
In Milton Keynes, 30% of children were living in poverty in 2022, compared
with 30.8% in England. The rate rose in Milton Keynes between 2021 and
2022 by 0.2%. The number of children living in poverty is de昀椀ned by how
many children are in households with income, after the deduction of
housing costs, below 60% of the median (i.e., midpoint). This allows for
the high cost of housing in Milton Keynes.
Charity, Dreamsai, which deliver projects to support the growing
needs of the community, reports that the biggest increase in
demand for its food parcels has been from schools, increasing
from 84 per month in 2022 to 180 per month in 2023.
School support workers and teachers are well placed to identify children
and families in need, who may not qualify for foodbank support or are
reluctant to ask for help.
