LIVE UNION
NATIONAL GRID – GLOBAL YOUTH
ENGINEERING CLIMATE CONFERENCE
As a Principal Partner of COP26, National Grid sought to
engage a diverse and global community of
16–35-year-olds around the green energy transition. Live
Union were asked to help design and produce an
experience that would engage an audience outside
National Grid’s normal focus, sparking connections and
inspiring a greener energy future.
Live Union’s highly customisable Beehive platform
encouraged development of a globally inclusive experience. The ambition was for a space 'where creativity and
science meet to create green energy solutions.' Live
Union created an eco-park deep in the Scottish
Highlands, linking it to the Glasgow location of COP26.
The stunning 3D environment included biodomes, living
walls, hydroponics, a wind farm, electric scooters - even
the Loch Ness monster.
Mindful that this audience sat outside their usual corporate focus, it was decided its National Grid’s UK and US
graduates would lead the content development. At the
heart of the conference were four streams, including
Engaging Generations and A Global Zero Carbon Energy
System for All. Held immediately prior to COP26, the
conference harnessed the excitement around green
energy, attracting 4,000 registrations and attended by
1,877 young people from 110 countries.
The depth of engagement was impressive: 26% of
attendees participated in a 1:1 video networking chat;
43% joined a networking table; 45% connected with an
exhibitor; and 54% researched vacancies on the Green
Jobs Board. Judges said the event “stayed true to the
audience and really let the youth drive the content”.
