R&D VIRTUAL EXPERIENCE
To demonstrate its innovative scientific research, one of Strata’s clients has a dedicated exhibition space – “R&D
Live” – which has hosted 3,500 visitors since 2011. However, with no in-person visits able to take place during the
pandemic, Strata was tasked with taking the experience online
The agency’s approach centred around three core pillars – the experience had to be engaging and authentic, agile
and navigable, and informative. Strata designed and produced an immersive 360° Virtual Reality tour across seven
laboratories, using advanced technology and special effects software. So regardless of a visitor’s location, they feel
immersed within the R&D space, and interact with it in real-time.
This creative approach has turned what would usually be a half day tour for a select few, into an on-demand
brand-led experience that’s available 24/7 to anyone across the world. It attracted over 4,000 visitors in the first four
months – a 2,700% increase in visitor numbers. The virtual solution benefits everyone involved; the client is reaching a
bigger audience for less investment, hosts and scientists are giving up less of their time but are receiving a bigger
platform, and tour visitors receive a tailored experience that’s more in-depth, sustainable and consistent.
Judges were impressed by the use of relatively new technology to deliver this, and said the virtual tour “felt authentic,
bringing viewers behind the scenes in what felt like a real-life experience”.
