A welcome
from the editor
We are thrilled to launch the first publication dedicated to shining the spotlight on
50 inspiring female agency leaders in the UK events industry. In the 15 years that I
have been a writer and editor in this sector, it is by far one of the most exciting and
rewarding projects that I have worked on.
We started this journey on International Women’s Day in 2021 with a virtual meeting
during lockdown, which brought together around 20 female leaders for an open
and honest exchange about the challenges of female leadership throughout the
pandemic. This was followed by further virtual and in person meetings throughout
the year, as well as a micebook talks session on female leadership at The Meetings
Show.
One of the key outcomes of these meetings was the desire to inspire the next
generation of female leaders. We felt that showcasing the achievements of 50
inspirational female agency owners and directors on International Women’s Day
2022 would be the perfect way to do that. This Power 50 is not a ranking, or by any
means a definitive list of inspiring women in our sector (there are so many more in the agency world and beyond), but rather a snapshot
in time and a celebration of how far we have come.
The events industry has always been female dominated, but not at leadership level. There was a time, in the not too distant past, when
board rooms were dominated by men and there were very few women leaders in the agency world.
We are not shining the spotlight on these leaders because they are women, but strongly believe that the fact there are now so many
powerful female role models is worth celebrating, even more so after the rollercoaster of the past two years. Some of these women were
made managing directors just before, or during the pandemic, and despite the many challenges they have faced, all have survived the
toughest time our industry has ever faced and come out the other side, with a renewed passion and drive to build back better.
These inspirational female leaders have all taken different journeys to get to where they are today, some working their way up through the
ranks at bigger agencies, others setting up on their own or in partnerships or pursuing management buyouts.
If you’re an aspiring female (or male) leader in the events industry, this publication is packed with inspiring stories of our Power 50, who
each share key memories and achievements, and explores some of those different pathways to the top in more detail. Big thanks to
Jennifer Jenkins for her support and encouragement in making this happen.
I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I have enjoyed putting it together!

THE FOUR
CORE
PATHWAYS TO
LEADERSHIP
Every female leader featured in
this Power 50 has a unique
story, each taking a slightly
different journey to get to where
they are today. But among
those individual stories, we have
identified a few key pathways to
leadership, which we explore in
greater depth in this feature.
We asked a few of our female
leaders to delve into the details
of their success and share
some insights and practical
advice for anyone considering
one of these pathways to the
top...
