Small and Simple
That said, she admits that transformation can start small and simple, and
doesn’t need to be a massive wholesale undertaking. For events and
incentives, this can simply be connecting with local communities at a
deeper level or doing something unexpected. At the micebook LUXE
event, delegates discussed experiences that had transformed them
personally, and many of those shared related to human connection.
David Heron, director at Yellow Fish, talked about how the passion for a
destination and sense of place can really be enhanced by the people, while
Graham Alderman, MD at Ulterior Events, shared an example of taking
the time to talk to the local drivers and guides he works with in Zambia
called Stan and Godfrey, about how the pandemic impacted their
community.
“They shared how during the pandemic if anyone in the village earned
some money, it all went straight into the “pot” and was used to support the
village. It was incredibly humbling and quite an emotional conversation.
Was it transformative? I’m not sure. But it was enlightening, and it did have
a huge impact on me. It's only when we have those kinds of conversations
that we realise the positive impact our industry can have at a core level,
and how important our support is to some people.”
Head to page 18, where we delve deeper into the importance of social impact and
human connection for creating meaningful incentive experiences.
