3. Geo Arbitrage
Geo Arbitrage is a trend that describes the way remote
workers (and retirees) are moving to countries with a lower
cost of living, while keeping the same level of income (be it a
salary, freelance earnings or a pension).
Over the next six years, the World Economic Forum predicts
that there will be a 25% growth in remote digital jobs, with
92 million people working from anywhere by 2030.
The rise of remote digital jobs presents opportunities for
workers, employers and countries all over the world.
Workers can access more jobs and work from anywhere,
while employers can widen their talent pool by recruiting
workers regardless of geographic location.
With many people no longer tethered to an office, a
rising number of countries are offering digital
nomad visas to aract professionals to relocate for
six months or a year. These include Italy, Malta,
Croatia, Estonia, Norway, Dominica, Bermuda,
Barbados, Dubai and Mauritius.
Meanwhile some forward-thinking travel
companies are designing long-stay packages
specifically targeted at affluent digital workers. For
example, Aleenta Resorts in Thailand recently
introduced a work-from-hotel package that helps
guests optimise their workations by balancing
productivity with downtime via “Think Trips” to
local temples and beauty spots.
Key takeaway for eventprofs
Why is this relevant to the luxury events sector? Because corporations will be
managing more disparate workforces and will have a greater need to bring
teams together at events throughout the year.
But also, because digital workers will increasingly be able to work from
anywhere - be it a yacht or a beachside resort. UK event agency Top Banana
recently added a two week “work-from anywhere” option as one of its
employee perks and its likely this will be an increasingly popular benefit for
employees in many industry sectors in future.
Companies could consider offering a “workcation” extension option for remote
employees aending events and incentives, giving them the opportunity to stay
in a destination for longer and work together with colleagues.
