Foreword
A national blood services centre has been a dream of Magen David Adom
(MDA) for many years. When Magen David Adom UK was asked
to help fundraise for this landmark building, we had our own dream
too; the dream of reinforcing and endorsing the universality of the
essence underpinning MDA – blood. In addition, to represent the
diversity and inclusiveness of MDA and its mission by commissioning
our own art within this stunning building.
We wanted to represent the strength of one of MDA’s key pillars – youth.
So we conceived the commissioning of works through a competition
which would yield our vision of ensuring that the opportunity to design
a mezuzah for the entrance of one of Israel’s largest civilian spaces would
be given to the youth – the future of Israel – from across the diverse
population of Israel. And, at the same time, produce some unique and
stunning art which would be fit to grace the doors of the new Ramle centre.
