Stefanie sees blood as a window
to the body, allowing us to view
aspects of our health that are
not otherwise visible.
Initially working with ceramics, Stefanie has switched
to glass work and was inspired by the geometric forms
and large glass windows observed when visiting
the construction site for the new Blood Centre.
Her main work involves stained glass and large
installations. Here, stained glass is used to
represent these window panes at the Blood Centre.
Each panel consists of 18 pieces, the numerical
value of the Hebrew word chai (life), honouring
the life-saving work of MDA.
Each of the glass pieces is based on the geometric
shapes observed on the emerging building as well
as using the colours of Magen David Adom and the
flag of Israel. Mirrored and clear pieces have been
added to be both reflective and introspective.
Since completing this initial design, variations
on the original theme have also been produced.
