The red branches are intended
to create a dialogue with the
observer, representing the
unity of all humanity.
The artwork Maria produces uses both kiln casting
and flameworking. These two different disciplines
motivate her to work with glass – a material she refers
to as “beautifully frustrating”.
Maria has two designs around the same theme –
blood vessels – the circulatory system components
that transport blood throughout the human body.
The growth of tree branches inspires the artwork
as they symbolise the connection, transition, and
evolution of blood.
The red branches are intended to create a dialogue with
the observer, representing the unity of all humanity and
emphasising the equality and multiculturalism between
us all. The visual language of blood vessels which are
connected builds this composition and tells a story.
The representation of capillaries is made from glass.
This design is replicated with decals on a standard
test tube.
