The mezuzah Tanya has created is titled The Guarding
Mother and represents the circle of giving. The
mother holds life in her body and creates new life
from her core, her centre, her blood. Without this
powerful source, life could not exist.
Recognising that life is fragile and precious,
the necessity of donating blood and breast milk is
clear, regardless of colour, religion, race, or gender.
These values are held by the guarding mother who
protects all – the mezuzah.
This piece was created on the potter’s wheel,
inspired by the artist’s previous pottery creations.
In making the object with her bare hands, she feels
it is created using her own centre and core.
