Magdalene awarded first
direct contract with UKPN
Magdalene has been awarded its first direct
contract with UK Power Networks (UKPN).
The contract award follows 18 months of
support provided by Magdalene to UKPN
through the ED1SON Alliance framework that
sister M Group Services company, Morrison
Utility Services, forms part of.
The five-year contract was awarded following
a competitive tender process and will see
Magdalene providing a Network Managed
Service for UKPN’s Optical Fibre Telecom
Network (OFTN). The network consists of
over 200 ABB (Keymile) SDH nodes and
over 2,000km of fibre, almost half of which
is owned by UKPN.
The contract will be monitored 24/7 from
Magdalene’s Networks Operation Centre based
in St Ives, Cambridgeshire, which is located
within UKPN’s geographic footprint. Under
the terms of the agreement, Magdalene will
provide round-the-clock technical support
with full vendor support and emergency onsite
engineering. All field teams will also be fully
trained and accredited to work unsupervised
within the UKPN substation estate.
“This contract puts Magdalene at the heart of
the UKPN network and secures our position
as a key partner that is ready to support
UKPN with the next phases of its network
development,” commented Keith Lamport,
Utilities Account Director.
Magdalene raises funds for Help for Heroes
Magdalene’s Employee Forum hosted three charity
events on 13 June in support of the divisional charity
Help for Heroes.
Colleagues were invited to bake Armed Forcesthemed cakes, with votes cast for the best looking
and tastiest efforts. Engineering Services Director
Laura Potterton and Resource Coordinator Raj
Singh’s inventive Help for Heroes medal-themed
cake was a worthy winner in the ‘best looking’
award, while NOC Administrator Kirsty Turpin’s
delicious giant chocolate cupcake won the ‘tastiest’
award. It was great to see so many people seize the
opportunity to show off their talents.
The office was then revamped for an evening
Mental Wellbeing Quiz, with rounds themed on
topics associated with mental health and the Armed
Forces. Six very competitive teams participated –
8
including one with a member who remotely dialled in
– to try and win the coveted prize tankard.
The winning team comprised Fran Eley, Rachel
Ansell, Laura Jelley, Jeff Mitchell and Rob Hunter – a
massive well done to them. To end a fantastic day,
there was a raffle with some amazing prizes donated
by local businesses and Magdalene’s executive
management team.
A combined total of over £400 was raised across
the three events, marking a tremendous start to
the fundraising year. A special thank you goes to all
those who were involved in organising the events
and to all those who took part.
