Openreach works with Morrison Telecom Services tocomplete another successful fibre projectMorrison Telecom Services has been workingwith Openreach to mobilise 7000THP fibrebroadband in Nottingham.completion• Minimising part-completed work, which wouldtie up cash.Including mobilisation, design and build, thishas been MTS’ fastest build-out of 7000THPto date, taking only 22 weeks. The team aims to deliver the build part of a PONfrom end-to-end in two weeks. Nottinghamwas the third city in which Morrison TelecomServices has worked with Openreach on its fibreprogramme.According to Chief Operating OfficerPat Carolan, it was also the best build-out forcost, delivery certainty and efficiency. This wasdue in part to the survey and design process, which involved:• Holistically looking at the plan• Carrying out intrusive surveys to makesure L2C (Lead to Cash) can deliver to allcustomers• Test rodding and roping the entire network, identifying all civils required followed byminimising the requirement for civils to reducecost and improve certainty• Providing a comprehensive job pack thatOpenreach used to record the network andcreate FNCs (fibre node configuration).Ensuring the survey and design was correctalso underpinned the build aspect of theprogramme. Pat said that process of preparingand programming the build involved:• Proactively interacting with the highwaysdepartment before the build started tomaintain a good relationship• Planning in all civils by passive opticalnetwork (PON) to be delivered andenhancing systems to make this moreproductive and easier to programme/schedule• Having a project team in place to helpovercome issues and working closely andcollaboratively with them – in this case, theOpenreach project team in Nottingham• Ensuring the focus was on PONPat commented: “Working collaboratively tomonitor budget and delivery was importantas having that budget allowed the flexibility todeliver the right outcomes.“We gained a lot of joint experience withOpenreach and are keen to continue to partnerwith them in Nottingham and other cities in theUK. We look forward to continuing to developpractices, systems, and technologies in atrue partnership approach that will supportOpenreach in the delivery of its Fibre Citiesprogramme.“We have continued the successful build outand to date we have delivered over 17,000THPand will complete the first exchange before theend of September 2019. The joint venture hascontinued into a second exchange which hasbeen surveyed and imminently starting build fora further 10,000THP.”
