Now in its 25th year, theGreen Flag award recognises andrewards well managed parks andopen spaces right around theworld!Woodhouse Park has recentlybeneI+ed from well over£300,000 of investment by theTown Council which has providedrefurbished play areas, newfencing, a new parcour and bikepump track.The Green Flag judges visitedWoodhouse Park in June 2021and were parTcularly impressedwith the community and mulTHagency involvement within theawardHwinning communitygarden as well as strongcommunity links with the park,with a wide variety of groupsgeng involved in helping out inthe park including local schoolsand East Durham College.The judges were also impressedwith some of the innovaTve waysPeterlee Town council weretackling AnTHSocial Behaviouralongside the localNeighbourhood Police Team andDurham Youth JusTce services.Another aspect of the awardcriteria is how well PeterleeTown Council communicate andinteract with local volunteers andwith that in mind the ParksDepartment sta6 are keen tohear residents’ views on allaspects of visiTng WoodhousePark and for the future provisionof areas for seaTng and picnicareas and exercise equipment.Peterlee Town Council are alsokeen to increase the pool ofvolunteers and encourageanybody visiTng the park to getinvolved through a range ofcommunity acTviTes throughoutthe rest of the year.Being a volunteer can bring you lots of benets;Gain ConfidenceSense of AchievementMake a DifferenceMeet new peopleBe part of the CommunityLearn new skillsTake on a Challenge, plus have Fun!So, if this sounds right up your street, please chat with amember of sta6 on duty in the Park or ring the CouncilHeadquarters on 0191 5862491 to speak to eitherKay Tweddle (extension: 205) or Louise Hudson(extension: 214) to sign up as a volunteer.Peterlee 7
