SHORT STORY
There’s Always More…
In a place where magic wove through the trees like whispers of an ancient secret, lived Erean.
She had known how light a heart in love could be, her days had been filled with laughter with
her beloved, Bloar by her side. They danced under moonlit skies and shared dreams by the clear
lake. But during one cruel winter, Bloar fell ill and passed to the summerlands, leaving Erean’s
world cloaked in a shroud of grief. Erean wandered through the forest, her heart aching with
every breath. Dusk fell, as the sun dipped below the horizon, she noticed a glow and found
herself looking upon a magnificent phoenix perched upon a twisted, ancient tree. Its feathers
glowing with fiery hues of red and gold, and its eyes shimmered with wisdom. The phoenix sang
a hauntingly beautiful song, its notes resonating with Elara’s sadness.
Moved by the creature’s song, Erean whispered her pain into the night air, and to her surprise,
the phoenix replied. “I, too, have known loss; “it said, its voice gentle and kind. “But from the
ashes, I rise, carrying the love and memories within me. There is such beauty in death, for it
paves the way for rebirth. “With tears streaming down her face, Erean realized that Bloar’s love
was not lost at all, just transformed. The phoenix, showed her that grief could coexist with
happiness and understanding.
As the days turned into months, Erean slowly began to heal. She found solace in the phoenix’s
companionship, its song no longer sounded sad, it was now a reminder of enduring love and the
beauty inherent in the cycle of life and death. In time, Erean’s laughter returned, echoing
through the forest once more. She understood that Bloar’s spirit lived on in her heart, and with
the phoenix by her side, she embraced life anew, cherishing each moment with a profound,
bittersweet joy. She saw the beauty in death’s finality. She now recognised it as a part of the
wondrous tapestry of existence, and found peace in the knowledge that love transcended even
the end.
