6 | How to vote
Voting in person
To vote in person, you
go to the polling station
which is allocated to you
based on your address.
You cannot choose to
go to a polling station
near your workplace, for
example.
Your polling station is listed on your poll card, which you will receive in the post before
polling day. You can also check your polling station online on the Electoral Commission
website, from approximately two weeks before election day.
How to vote in person
1
Check where your polling station is, and go to vote there between 7am and 10pm on
polling day. As long as you are in the queue by 10pm, you’ll be allowed to vote.
2
When you arrive at your polling station, a staff member will ask for your name and
address, and check that you are on the electoral register (see above for details on how
to register to vote).
3
For the UK parliamentary general election, you will need to show photo ID to vote
(for further information please see section 7 below). The staff member will ask to see
your ID, check that it’s accepted, and that it looks like you. Learn more about ID on the
Electoral Commission’s website. If you are registered to vote anonymously, you will be
asked to show your poll card and Anonymous Elector’s Document (AED).
4
A private area will be available should you choose to have your photo ID viewed in
private. This might be a separate room, or an area separated by a privacy screen,
depending on the polling station.
