Y6 Science Lesson Plan
Fascinating Functions
This lesson plan covers national curriculum objectives for year 6 to support a unit of work focusing on how
external influences such as diet, lifestyle and exercise affect how the human body functions. However, it
can be adapted for use with younger or older learners.
We recommend you read through the plan carefully and adapt it to suit the needs of your learners. You
may wish to split the lesson over two sessions or devote an afternoon to the lesson to ensure you can
cover all the activities suggested.
This lesson could also be used as part of a day devoted to Guinness World Records activities, such as
Guinness World Records Day in November. Although helpful, you do not need a copy of any Guinness
World Records books to be able to teach this lesson.
The symbols used in this lesson plan and in the lesson presentation
indicate suggestions for partner work and group work.
