Resilience is a key component to the success of the
Grand Bahama International Airport (GBIA) despite
being challenged by natural disasters, global
recessions, destruction of facilities and a global
pandemic, the company continues to meet and
exceed the travel and transport demands of local
and international clients.
Monthly, the GBIA passenger traffic ranges between
2,500 to 3,000 people, which does not include Fixed
Based Operations (FBO) services for clients who wish
to have their travel needs met through customization.
GBIA Aviation Services Manager, Wendy Huyler noted
that FBOs remove the red tape out of the hands of
the clients and into personnel management of the
company, which makes travel much easier especially
as it relates to security, presentation of relevant
documentation (permits), customs and immigration
clearance,
ground
transportation
and
accommodations.
With people moving at the speed of now, Huyler
noted that FBOs are providing effective,
expedient services and the GBIA is elated to boast
of its offerings that include but is not limited to
fueling
services,
life
alert
services,
accommodating flight clubs, freight forwarding
services and partnering with the Ministry of
Tourism to promote and make travel safe and
efficient for various cultural events and initiatives.
Sadly,
numerous
misconceptions
abound
regarding whether or not Grand Bahama has a
fully functioning airport particularly in the
aftermath of Hurricane Dorian hence, Huyler
wasted no time in debunking each one. “People
tend to equate our ability and capacity to support
passenger movement based on our size, which is
unfortunate as size does not determine the
functionality of the airport neither the heart and
efforts of the staff working there."
