Grand Bahama made.
Grand Bahama grown.
Grand Bahama talent.
On a stunningly beautiful morning, just as the sun began to glisten over the calm
waters of eastern Grand Bahama, Beyonce Forbes’ aquamarine gown billowed in
the ocean kissed breeze of Fortune Beach. She donned handmade jewelry by
Bahamian designer Tenisha Carey of Baha Gala. Each piece was meticulously
constructed with shells and sea-glass and was a whirlwind of pinks, golds, blues,
and greens that represented the flamingos, golden sun, breathtaking oceans, and
natural greenery that The Bahamas is known for.
Her dress moved like a flag waving in the wind, and her skin glistened in the warm
sun as it rose higher and higher into the sky. She stood strong and proud along the
untouched sandbanks, in a tribute to the people, culture, natural wonders, beauty,
and unquantifiable charm that makes Grand Bahama unique.
This year, The Bahamas will celebrate 50 years of Independence…. 50 years of
proudly flying the black, gold and aquamarine of the country’s flag…. 50 years of
embracing the pulsating rhythms of Junkanoo’s goat skin drums, cowbells and
horns as a free and independent nation. And, 50 years of standing tall as one
people - pressing onward and marching together to a common loftier goal.
While many Bahamians stand tall each and every day, celebrating their culture and
freedoms in their own unique way, there is something special about a golden
anniversary. Fifty is a milestone and an accomplishment that warrants a jubilant
celebration. And, while each island, around the entire Bahamas, has an impressive
calendar of celebratory events lined up, Grand Bahama is ringing in the golden
era of The Bahamas in its own special way.
Beyonce, who will represent the island in the upcoming Miss Bahamas Universe
pageant as Miss Grand Bahama Universe 2023, is proud to be a Grand Bahamian
and loves sharing her home with others.
“To me, it means a lot to represent my island. I was born and raised here. We have
gone through so much in the past few years, but it feels like a breath of fresh air to
be able to show all of the beauty of my home.”
When asked about what she truly loves most about Grand Bahama, Beyonce didn’t
hesitate. “My favorite thing about Grand Bahama has to be the people.” She notes
that the warmth, genuine hospitality, unity, and resilience of her fellow Grand
Bahamians fills her with pride.
Beyonce is the cover model of the summer issue of the Grand Life Magazine, but
the vision was created and brought to life by a team of talented Grand Bahamians
and Grand Bahama residents who wanted to pay homage to the island that they
love so much.
