5. Awareness raising about environmental care
and social action and job skills development
around green issues

indicators. There were 2700 fly tipping incidents in 2020,
a rise of 254 cases when compared to 2019.34
Environmental crime is also high at 1480 incidents and
is a rising trend.35 As an area with a busy motorway
network and on the banks of a major English river,
improving the environment and supporting the green
agenda is a real opportunity for the town’s children
and young people to understand and prepare for a
growing ‘green jobs’ economy. Dartford is currently
mid-ranking on the estimated total number of direct
jobs in low-carbon and renewable energy sector.36

“I was introduced to Healthy Living Centre by
chance. While in the building I met the HLC Team
in the office and eventually started the Monday
cooking group. I then moved forward in supporting
a book club and craft club.
“They encourage people to get out and participate
in activities. Since joining the HLC, I have started to
live life, not just exist. It has improved my mental
health and wellbeing; my mental health is a part
of me, but it is not all that I am, and the HLC has
helped me bring a different part of my personality
out. I believe I am seen not just as a person who
has issues but as someone who can give something
back which I really enjoy.”
