so significant alongside the other indicators, with a 6.8%

one stop shops are up 27%.176 This is corroborated by
local domestic abuse services which recorded a rise of
248 cases in 2020 and local stalking services report that
Tonbridge had the second highest need with 12 high risk
cases supported.177 They also reported a 200% increase
in demand over lockdown, due to a rise in cyberstalking
incidents as stalkers adapted their methods.178

Five years on, this bright, articulate youngster is

CM is clear that Challenger Troop triggered the
turnaround in his life. The first few weeks proved
a challenge as CM, realised he was in a different
world. “It was a new place, with new people, and
I didn’t enjoy it at first. But after a few weeks, I
realised that I wasn’t the big ‘I am’, and there were
bigger and better people than me, and that’s when
I started to change.
“Challenger Troop offered me the discipline I
needed but I really enjoyed myself too. Instructors
demonstrated the activities and let you get on with
it, but if you need help, they’re always there. And if
you’re having problems at home or at school, and
there’s no-one to talk to, they’ll always listen.
“Challenger Troop made me realise what’s wrong
and what’s right. I calmed down a lot and now I have
real friends. I always knew I was hurting my mum
when I got into trouble, she was despairing of my
behaviour, but I’d feel guilty for about ten minutes
and then forget. Now I know she’s proud of me.”
