NUTRITION-BOOSTING SWAP
Semi-skimmed or
full-fat milk
*Fortified milk: Mix 3-4tbsp
of dried milk powder into 1 pint
of full-fat (blue or gold-top) milk.
TIP: Add straight into the carton or
bottle, close the lid and shake well
to mix.
Instant coffee or
hot chocolate
A mugful of heated full-fat milk with
added coffee or chocolate powder.
Re-heated
vegetable soup
‘Cream of’ soups e.g. cream of
tomato with 1tbsp of double cream
and sprinkle of grated cheese.
Add one piece of toast or a small
buttered roll.
Normal cooked
pasta and potatoes
Add up to 1tbsp of oil and a handful
of grated cheese after cooking.
Well-cooked
vegetables
Add a knob of butter or some oil.
Piece of toast with
low-fat spread
A crumpet with thicker spread butter
or margarine .
Ham sandwich with
low-fat spread
Cheese and ham sandwich with
butter/margarine and some full-fat
mayonnaise .
Porridge made with
semi-skimmed milk
Made with full-fat milk, with 1tbsp
double cream and 2tsp honey or
sugar.
Stewed fruit and
low-fat yoghurt
Fruit crumble and custard with 2tbsp
squirty cream.
