The Camellia House tea room
Rotherham-based catering equipment distributor Lloyd Catering Equipment, played a starring
role in the creation of catering facilities. In a £5m restoration project at one of England’s grandest
and most historic houses.
Wentworth Woodhouse took 16 years to build and
housed 84 hunting, riding and carriage horses and
more than 30 stable boys, grooms and gardeners when
it opened in 1782.
The Camellia House tearoom was the first project
Lloyd Catering Equipment completed as part of the
overall Wentworth Woodhouse refurbishment. They
designed and installed a small kitchen and servery
counter for the Grade II* listed glasshouse. Formerly
Lady Rockingham’s Tea Room, the building not long
since derelict has undergone an extensive yet sympathetic restoration that has brought about its former
glory. The Camellia House opened its doors on the
2nd April.
Once home to the Fitzwilliam family, it was revered as
one of the great houses of England alongside
Chatsworth, Blenheim and Stowe.
Since taking over in 2017, the Wentworth Woodhouse
Preservation Trust has spent the past six years making
urgent repairs to the mansion, and most recently
renovating a derelict Camellia House.
The Trust that looks after the estate has revealed the
scale of the work to modernise the Stables, which are
part of a Palladian-style complex originally created for
the 2nd Marquess of Rockingham in the late 1700s.
The new kitchen facilities are huge by comparison to
anything that Wentworth Woodhouse currently has,
spanning a total area of around 335 square meters or
400 square yards.
The work that Lloyd Catering Equipment is involved
in represents the first stage of the plan to regenerate
The Stables. The south-west corner of The Stables
will become the main arrival point for Wentworth
Woodhouse visitors in future.

Even though the area covered by the kitchens is less
than 6% of the total area covered by buildings at the
Stables, the work will take almost a year to complete.
Lloyd Catering Equipment, which is based just five
miles from the site, designed the new production
kitchens from a blank canvas and used state-of-theart virtual reality to bring the new layout to life.
