John Weaver Contractors (JWC) is one of the longest established building companies in South Wales. We
are renowned for our heritage conservation works and are highly successful in delivering both new build and
refurbishment projects, predominantly, in the education, healthcare, public and commercial sectors.
Our recent experience includes £7m the Hafod Copperworks Project for Swansea Council and
Penderyn Distillery which completed in June 2023. This challenging construction project, comprised
major conservation and refurbishment works to the Grade II Listed Powerhouse, which now forms the
Penderyn Distillery, refurbishment of the Grade II Listed Rolling Mill, now Penderyn’s Barrell Store and
the construction of a modern visitor centre and shop, linking the buildings together.
The project is an integral part of a major regeneration scheme by Swansea Council to bring the former
Copperworks area back to life, helping preserve the unique history of lower Swansea Valley while
generating new life into redundant buildings and enhancing the appeal of the area both for the local
population and tourists. Since completion, Penderyn have opened the Distillery, Visitor Centre and Shop
to the public and are running regular tours and masterclasses sharing information on the history of
Copper in Swansea as well as the Whisky making business.
JWC we have been awarded a Sustainability Award with Insider Property Wales for the Hafod Copperworks,
which opened it’s doors in June 2023 and won the CEW Regeneration/ Retro-Fit award.
