Welcome to issue 40 of Conservation and Heritage Journal
A special welcome to our 10th anniversary issue and a special thank you to all our readers, contributors and
advertisers. We are pleased to see the progress the journal has made and are determined to see the Journal
grow, we are proud to feature the talents of so many craftsmen and artisans in the industry.
This issue is our largest yet, running to 128 pages, we are pleased to feature a wide range of projects
including, the Bath stone finial at All Souls College, Oxford, thought to have been designed by Christopher
Wren. The finial was carved anew by Heritage Stone Access and reinstated in winter of 2023.
Touchstone Glazing Solutions highlight double glazing the Rose Window at The Halifax Piece Hall and
Congregational Church, one of the most ambitious and outstanding Georgian buildings of its time.
The rebirth of Cambridge House, a distinguished listed building, holds a special place as a window into the
past. We hear from Studio PDP’s Conservation Architect, Jokin Asiain, who explores how to transform our
heritage assets in a way that not only preserves their historical essence but also embraces innovative
techniques to ensure their relevance for generations to come.
This prestigious project involved the iconic Piccadilly Circus buildings at 1 Sherwood Street, 8 Glasshouse
Street, 4-6 Glasshouse Street, and 11-17 Shaftesbury Avenue, the project was delivered in two phases.
The extensive refurbishment of Grade II* listed The Old War Office (OWO) in London’s Whitehall is
covered by Artisan Plastercraft and also DaeWha Kang Design's transformation of The OWO's Courtyard
and Pavilion
Chroma Conservation Ltd present the recently completed project for English Heritage in the beautifully
reimagined Elizabethan Gardens at Kenilworth Castle, Warwickshire.
