Our Future was developed after a public consultation and
in collaboration with the Scottish Government, Built
Environment Forum Scotland (BEFS), National Trust for
Scotland, National Lottery Heritage Fund, Museums
Galleries Scotland, Society of Antiquaries of Scotland,
Historic Houses Scotland, Historic Churches Scotland,
Volunteer Scotland, and Scotland Historic Buildings
Trust/Heritage Trust Network. The strategy is collectively
owned.

Lincoln comes to Petersfield
Professional Theater company LynchPin brings their
engrossing production of Old Abe by Hugh Steadman
Williams to Petersfield Museum and Art Gallery on 13
September
so that he swore the Oath of Office on the same Bible as
used by Lincoln at his in auguration. Renowned for his
eloquence and clarity of thought, Lincoln’s words have
resonance in today’s uncertain times
‘Old Abe’ paints a fascinating portrait of Abraham
Lincoln arguably the greatest US President and champion
of liberty. In documentary style, a journalist leads Lincoln
to recount his story, from childhood poverty, his self education to become a lawyer and politician, through his
election as President to leading th e Union through the
turmoil of the Civil War and abolition of slavery.
Lincoln is played by Andrew Hodson and the journalist
by Edie Campbell in a production directed by Elisabeth
Tooms.
The fictional journalist who meets Lincoln is modelled on
Emily Briggs, the first female press cor respondent to
report directly from The White House.
Performed by two actors as a multi media staged reading,
the play movingly quotes from Lincoln’s letters, witty anecdotes and his extraordinary and inspiring speeches
which helped him reach, and heal, a fractured nation.
Lincoln ’s influence reaches into th e 21 st century.
