New heritage experience, the first of its kind, opens at Sudbury Hall
National Trust experts worked with children to create the experience
Trust hopes to spark a lifelong love of heritage in children
Activities rooted in historic use of each space, from curling up with a book in the
Library to dancing in the Saloon
Children inspired to discover more about historic portraits, artwork, games and music
A new mystery room experience invites visitors to explore moments from the hall’s
history – the first inspired by evacuees during the Blitz
Great Staircase restored, allowing visitors to climb it for first time in 40 years
Future phases to include significant investment in garden spaces
Trust experts worked alongside children to create the new
experience, where children are encouraged to be curious,
explore the house and ‘have fun with history’, all while
protecting the late 17th-century hall’s collections.
The National Trust is set to open The Children’s Country
House at Sudbury in Derbyshire on 22 October 2022,
believed to be the first heritage experience of its kind
where the Hall, Museum and Gardens put young people
at the very centre of the experience.
