Devon was at the margin of a super continent that collided with another to the
Woodblock print by Merlyn Chesterman
South. Hartland Quay, as a result during the Variscan Orogeny, was buckled
and folded, producing the spectacular folds exposed in the cliffs today- the top
surface then being eroded flat.
