East Suffolk Council Climate Action Framework - Paper - Page 18
12. East Suffolk Council's current emissions footprint
The pie chart below shows our current carbon footprint. The three largest contributors (fleet, housing stock and leisure centres) are
collectively responsible for 85.5% of the emissions. Therefore, our emissions reduction plans are focused on these key aspects.
In 2022 we completed a major programme to switch our entire HGV refuse vehicle fleet from diesel to to HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil).
This is is expected to reduce our total carbon emissions by around 30% / 2,000 metric tonnes.
The next largest part of our footprint are our leisure centres. In early 2023, building on previous construction and energy retrofit projects,
we initiated the next phase of our major leisure centre decarbonisation programme. Funding permitting, this programme will start work in
late 2023. Our carbon footprint for 2021/22 is below. Our next annual audit of our emissions will be published in late 2023.
