1.5.5
Project team
1.5.5.1
Assemble the project team and define the members’ roles and
responsibilities and the Information Exchanges.
The importance of properly establishing the project team cannot be
understated given the increasing use of technology, which enables
remote communication and project development using BIM. For
Stage 2 to commence in earnest, it is essential that the team is properly
assembled. The tools necessary to achieve this, and to produce the
various documents required to accompany each team member’s
appointment, are considered in greater detail in the guidance to the RIBA
Plan of Work 2013.
Refer to Assembling a Collaborative Project Team (2013).
The RIBA Plan of Work 2013 advocates the definition and
establishment of the project team during Stage 1. This ensures
that the roles and responsibilities of each organisation are
clear before commencement of Stage 2 Concept Design. The
publication Guide to Using the RIBA Plan of Work 2013 (2013)
provides advice on this process.
1.5.5.2 Where appropriate, and in accordance with the project’s
Technology Strategy, appoint an information manager, whose
role should include the following:
• explaining to the client the benefits and implications of
implementing BIM
• advising on the extent to which BIM should be used on the
project
• determining the roles and responsibilities of each member of
the project team with regard to the BIM process and the model
• leading the other consultants in preparing the BIM project plan
• defining and communicating the BIM inputs and outputs
• in conjunction with the other consultants, reviewing and
signing off the model at agreed stages
• issuing data from the model at the appropriate times
• liaising with the contractor, subcontractors and suppliers to
integrate their design data into the model
