Stage 4 > Technical Design
4.5.5.9 Monitor, coordinate and integrate input from design team
members and specialists. Appraise input from specialist
firms, including potential subcontractors and suppliers. The
architect needs to bring both design and management skills to
Stage 4. Collaboration with other design team members and
coordination of their contributions is often difficult to achieve in
practice.
The lead designer is responsible for facilitating the coordination of all
information and its integration into the general scheme.
4.5.5.10 Check the designers’ cooperation with the CDM coordinator with
respect to the pre-construction information.
4.5.5.11 Check that any design changes now instructed are recorded and
subject to the Change Control Procedures.
No design team members should attempt to make decisions unilaterally.
4.5.5.12 Review with the design team the client’s response to Stage 3
Developed Design and decide what action is necessary.
4.5.5.13 Coordinate and integrate information from design team
members.
4.5.5.14 Confirm the stage timetable for services and note its relationship
to the project timetable as agreed with the client.
Establish a cut-off point for information to be passed to the cost
consultant. This will become information for tenderers. Any subsequent
changes are then to be treated formally as contract variations at the
appropriate time.
4.5.5.15 Adopt a formal approach to ‘question and answer’ procedures
with the cost consultant as soon as possible.
4.5.5.16 Ask the cost consultant to state priorities for receiving
information for billing purposes.
4.5.5.17 At an early stage, request that all consultant team members use
the CPI system for Technical Design if this is practicable
