are no longer required (although it is likely that 2D ‘slices’ through a model will
continue to be used as contractual documents for some time). The matter
therefore becomes one of purpose rather than scale. For example, if the model
is being used for design discussions with a client, a relatively low level of detail is
required, but if the BIM model is being handed over to a specialist subcontractor
to develop the curtain walling, a high level of detail must be included.
For each project/model, a spreadsheet should be prepared setting out, by
building element, the level of detail at each stage (Stages 0 to 7), alongside the
author of that design.
Members of the design team should consult the information manager for advice
on BIM protocols and procedures.

BIM Demystified (2012).
