Appointment
4.5.3.1
Establish the scope, content and context for Stage 4 activities.
Put this information into context, particularly if previous stages have
been undertaken by others. If possible, establish whether material
produced now is likely to be acted upon by others taking over subsequent
stages.
4.5.3.2 If coming new to the project at this stage in the Plan of Work:
• ascertain that relevant earlier stage checks have been carried
out
• agree fees and timetable with the client
• allow for familiarisation and reviewing of all usable material
from Stages 1 to 3 when agreeing fees and timetable with the
client
• confirm the role of the architect in relation to the rest of the
design team
• ensure that you have adequate professional indemnity (PI)
insurance cover in accordance with ARB and RIBA requirements
• request a copy of the project-specific pre-construction health
and safety information and review it
• advise the client of their responsibilities under the CDM
Regulations and ensure that a CDM coordinator has been
appointed.
Where a project is notifiable, the Regulations require that the client
appoints a CDM coordinator as soon as is practicable after initial design
work or other preparation for construction work has begun. This would
generally be at Stage 2.
4.5.3.3 Check that the client’s instruction to proceed has been given and
confirmed in writing.
4.5.3.4 Check that the client has settled all accounts submitted to date.
