FORTY | STRATEGIC PRIORITY THREE
APPRENTICESHIPS:
A WIN-WIN SOLUTION
I love my job and College was good.
One of the best parts was ticking
off everything I’d mastered as I
progressed. My apprenticeship
has got me where I wanted to be.”
Joe Pegg
Joe completed a Level 2 Barbering apprenticeship
via DCG and now works for Sam’s Barbers, Derby.
More than 1,000 local,
regional and national
employers are reaping
the bene昀椀ts of DCG’s
forward-thinking and
rigorous approach to
apprenticeship training.
The impetus is to 昀椀ll skills gaps in local priority
sectors, with purposeful growth targeting
engineering, manufacturing, construction,
technology, and health and social care. Higher and
degree apprenticeships, offering a fast track to
senior and managerial roles, are key to this growth.
DCG also champions parity of esteem for
apprenticeships, so that young people see them
as a valid alternative to university. The advantages
of working for a real employer in a real job with
training, a salary and paid holidays cannot be
disputed.
Among latest developments:
Covering all levels and diverse occupational
routes, apprenticeships are a crucial part of the
Group’s work to deliver effective skills solutions
for employers investing in a more professional,
sustainable workforce.
• The Derby Homes apprenticeship scheme
reached a ten-year milestone, having harnessed
the potential of over 100 young people. DCG
works in tandem with the company to deliver
quali昀椀cations in trades such as plumbing, joinery
and gas engineering.
