Enjoying the social aspect of drinking beer decreases rapidly as women age. 36% of 18324 year olds state this is the most
likeable aspect of beer drinking, dropping to 14% amongst the 55+ age group.
Amongst students, the sociability of beer is hugely important as a reason for their preference for it (51%).
18 3 24 year olds are also very price sensitive and cite ‘low price’ as a major reason why they enjoy beer (28%) compared to
11% for all women.
The brand of beer being drunk matters more to men than it does women (8%M vs 4%F).
The serve size (eg, pints, halves, and thirds) has less significance for women than in 2018 (a decrease of 10%).
The strength of beer is an increasingly important enjoyment factor for men (19%), but much less so for women (8%).
Women don’t rate the social aspect of drinking beer as particularly important (20%). For men, the social aspect is the joint
second favourite aspect (42%).
There has been a massive leap in the number of women stating they ‘don’t like anything in particular about beer’ (up by
29%).
