11% of women age 18-to-24-year said they chose beer most often, over-indexing against the rest of the sample.
However, full-time students who would normally be within this age group under index and are least likely to choose
beer (6%) - though students are among most frequent beer drinkers (23% drinking once a week or more).
Women in London across all age groups drink beer most often with almost 12% of respondents in this region choosing it
over other alcoholic categories compared with just 5% of women in Scotland – more insights into this geographical split
later in the report.
8% of women say they drink beer most often, falling 1% in the past five years, compared to 38% of men, but beer is still
the third most popular choice for women after wine and spirits.
Cocktails have risen in popularity over the past five years for women.
